Our Specialties

Pelvic Floor Physio:

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialised field of physiotherapy. The most common causes of pelvic floor weakness are pregnancy and childbirth. However, pelvic floor dysfunction is not only reserved for those who have had children. Constipation, a long standing cough, repeated lifting, overweight, smoking and some exercises can weaken the pelvic floor. Increasing age and hormonal changes around menopause can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction. Overactive pelvic floors are not uncommon and can be as problematic as weak muscles, so guidance is necessary for good outcomes. Men also require pelvic floor health care. Symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction include leakage, urgency to go, incomplete emptying, discomfort due to pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, to name a few. The good news is that Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy support is available here at Synergy.

Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented, movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Dr. Eddie specializes in this hands-on approach. Once the injury has been assessed, the provider uses hands on treatment and patient motion to free up problem areas and scar tissue. When muscles, tendons, and ligaments are clear of scar tissue, a specific stretching and strengthening program is prescribed in order to restore normal function.

Manual Therapy:

Utilizes skilled, hands-on techniques, including massage and joint mobilizations. This technique is used to diagnose and treat pain syndromes. The benefits include: increasing range of motion; eliminating soft tissue inflammation; inducing relaxation; improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair, and improving function. These techniques help restore normal joint “kinematics” or motion.

Vestibular Rehabilitation:

An exercise-based group of approaches designed to decrease dizziness and vertigo, improve ability to stabilize vision, and retrain aspects of postural control due to vestibular dysfunction. This is a variety of maneuvers and methods to treat vertigo and vestibular dysfunction, including the Epley maneuver, Canalith repositioning, Brandt-Daroff, and many others.

McKenzie Technique:

The McKenzie Method is a scientifically proven system used to treat a variety of neck and back pain problems. utilizing this dynamic treatment approach which empowers the patient to treat themselves. This Method is best used when treating spinal disorders and disc related impairments (i.e. painful bulging / herniated discs). While low back pain is self-limiting, it is also episodic, with recurrences becoming progressively more severe. This method has been shown to eliminate chronic back and neck pain, while also preventing future episodes.

Kinesio Taping:

Kinesio Taping is a type of rehabilitative taping, which involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. This technique is Based on the principles of Kinesiology, this method is used to support acutely injured muscles, rehabilitate chronic neuromuscular conditions, and reduce inflammation and edema.

Manual Lymph Drainage:

Lymphedema is the accumulation of fluid in one or more limbs, most often caused by damage or removal of lymph nodes during cancer treatment or the alteration (mutations) in genes responsible for the development of the lymphatic system. The faulty genes cause the parts of the lymphatic system responsible for draining fluid to not develop properly or not work as they should. Symptoms can be treated and managed with specialized, skilled care. A Lymphedema Massage with Christine Cleaver, RMT, can help decrease the pain and swelling in affected limbs to improve function and mobility. Manual lymph drainage is a light-touch, rhythmical and precise manual technique and is effective for draining any type of swelling, including acute injuries, or post-operative edema. This technique can also be used to ease chronic pain, and can improve energy levels, boost immune response and assist in conditions including migraines and headaches, a traumatic event, sports injuries, deep cuts, bruising, cellulite and fat cell breakdown, glowing skin, post-injury swelling, easing tension, debloats and depuffs fluid retention, optimises post-Liposuction, neurological issues, or arthritis. Assisting the movement of the lymphatic system also assists your immune system, blood circulation and body fluid balance.

Myofascial release:

Myofascial release is a gentle manual therapy technique that specifically targets the fascial tissue. Fascia is a tough connective tissue located just underneath the skin and encompasses your entire body. With any trauma, such as a car accident, repetitive stress or poor posture, the fascia can tighten and become less elastic, causing pain and movement restrictions. Chronic fascial tightness can even lead to long term biomechanical and postural changes. Myofascial release can help to elongate the fascial tissue, reduce pain and restore normal movement.
